  • Major or Current Achievements *: Together with our stakeholders, NNED has achieved the following: • Reactivation of the “DELTA Force” in Builsa & Nadowli and supported in reconstituting that of Gushegu & Karaga. DELTA (District Employment Task Force) Force is a key structure of the NYEP (National Youth Employment Programme) • Tracked capitation grant in 186 school communities from 18 districts in Northern Ghana. Evidence of which contributed to the increase in the capitation grant by 50% in public basic schools in Ghana • With evidence from the field, NNED made inputs into School plans, the ESP 2010-2020, Education Sector Review Processes, the language policy and the Education Bill • Through NNED’s engagement processes the UTDBE (Untrained Teacher Diploma in Basic Education) certification has been disaggregated into 4yr Diploma and Certificate “A” NNED’s interface sessions with district level stakeholders resulted in the following; • Passing of a bye law by the Bongo District Assembly to ban basic school children from attending record dances as a way of reducing teenage pregnancy • Nadowli District Assembly supplying 155 dual desks and 25 teachers tables to 5 primary schools • Supply of capitation grant guideline books to all public basic schools in Nanumba North district which hitherto did not have • Posting of 5 trained teachers to Makayili primary school in the Nanumba North district which had only 2 untrained and 1 trained teacher handling the whole school Through community feedback sessions; • SMCs/PTAs of 12 schools put up separate Toilets and Urinals in Dapuoh and Konzokalla in the Nadowli and Jirapa districts respectively. • The Duong SMCs/PTAs mobilized resources and connected electricity to the school to enable them watch/listen to educational programmes on TV. • District Directors of Education transferred/reshuffled Circuit Supervisors and Headteachers who have over stayed in some particular schools/circuits as a way of reducing teacher absenteeism. • Engagements have resulted in GES of Tamale Metro, Builsa, Gushegu and Nadowli to embark on teachers’ audit and redeployed teachers to areas where their services are needed most • Through a NNED partnership, 1,650 pupils are now accessing education in the Gushegu and Karaga districts under the “wing school concept”. 56 Wing Schools absorbed by GES and benefitting from the government capitation grant, exercise and texts books and receive trained teachers yearly. • NNED facilitated a process that resulted in the Builsa, Gushegu, Karaga and Nadowli District Assemblies signing MoUs to commit resources to support teacher INSET. The Nadowli District Assembly released GHC 10, 000 to support teacher INSET in 2012.
